Below is an overview of our musical approaches....

Intermediate Students:

As we progress...chord structure, key voicing and rhythmic patterns begin to take shape. Aided with fun, creative exercises, these musical concepts begin to merge. And in a short time, the music we hear in our mind begins to come to life on our instrument. When this happens, we can start understanding how our favorite musicians may have created some of our most memorable songs.

Advanced Students:

If you desire speed and articulation, modal/pentatonic phrasing or new approaches to your existing chops, our techniques can expand to picking (flat/hybrid/fingerstyle), fingerboard accuracy and relative/parallel/modal structures. With all string instruments, understanding note placement on the neck is crucial. We will build a frame of reference that allows quick changes between registers up and down the neck of the instrument. If you desire to focus on arrangement, we will develop exercises and scale/chordal approaches that allow you to write and play riffs over different backing progressions/rhythms. We can also expand on conceptual theory and proper notation to correctly depict your desired outcome, as well as the techniques and musical sensibilities that allow a specific genre/style to emerge.

Beginning Students:

Lessons begin with fundamental concepts, such as names of strings, the parts of the instrument and how to properly hold it, open chords, scale structure and tuning. From the very onset, we will discuss the style(s) of music you wish to develop and choose a few of your favorite songs that we'll work toward!
